Rich in history ranging from generations of Washoe Indian who spent their summers here to the three socialite families from San Francisco in the 1890s, this huge estate has been so well preserved you feel like you are stepping back in time.

During its heyday, the resort included two large hotels, a casino, and numerous annexes and out-buildings. Exhibits about the Baldwin family, the former proprietors of the Tallac Hotel, and the Washoe Indian Tribe can be seen at the Tallac (Baldwin) Museum.

Today, many of these historic buildings are open to the public for viewing or live performances or local art exhibits during the Valhalla Arts, Music, and Theatre Festival. The Valhalla Artists-in-Residence Series takes place throughout the festival in one of the Twin Cabins. Live music and theatrical acts take place in the Valhalla Grand Lodge and Boathouse.
