She works with soft pastels to capture the subtle mood of our Sierra landscapes.

Her refined study of nature’s textures and skillful compositions accurately depict the changing quality of light cast upon Lake Tahoe, from the crisp light of early morning, to the crescendo of an evening alpenglow, to the saturated glow of autumn.

Currently, Bonita is painting en plein air – French for “in the open air” – as part of the 2010 North Tahoe Plein Air event. You can see Bonita’s finished masterpiece at Northstar on September 11 and 12, and more of her award-winning paintings at the Tahoe Art League Art Expo on October 1st and 2nd at the Horizon Casino Resort in South Lake Tahoe.

Bonita has been living in the Lake Tahoe area for more than 25 years, and sees no end to the inspiration the area offers to her painting.

“Nothing gives me more joy than to hike and explore, and paint this wild western landscape.”

Bonita Paulis

Bonita is a member of the Tahoe Art League, the regional representative of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and a signature member of the Sierra Pastel Society.

With deep reverence, her paintings focus on landscapes of the west, from the desert to the sea. To honor her subjects that feed her soul, her impressionistic landscape paintings capture the intense beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe, California Coast and Southwest Desert.

A prolific artist, Bonita recently returned from the 2010 Los Gatos Plein Air Art Show and Auction in June where she sold each of the four paintings that were juried into the show.

She also had two Lake Tahoe paintings juried into the 2009 Santa Cruz Art League’s 79th annual Statewide Exhibition entitled “Irreplaceable Places by Contemporary California Landscape Painters”.

And, in September 2009 Bonita won an Honorable Mention for “Sierra Canyon” at the North Tahoe Plein Air juried art show.  Bonita was selected to join more than thirty artists over three days to capture Taho’s fall light as it dances along the landscape, and was asked back again in 2010.

Bonita’s landscape collections can be found in the Lake Tahoe region, and in many international locations.

You can see more of her work in person at Lone Tree Gallery, 1598 Esmeralda in Minden, Nevada; Hanifin’s Art & Antiques 210 N. Carson Street Carson City, Nevada; and at the Showcase Gallery in the Ski Run Center in South Lake Tahoe.
