Devastatingly, Peter suffered the complete loss of his studio and home to fire including hundreds of paintings and 40 years of irreplaceable personal treasures.
Peter has been helping the community, donating his time and art work to Lake Tahoe service organizations since 1972. Now it is our turn as a community to give back to him through donations.
Donations may be made to the Peter Darvas assistance account to any El Dorado Savings Bank. For more information, call 530-448-4107 or email darvasart@hotmail.com.
More about the Artist:
Utilizing bold, spontaneous strokes with a mastery of color, light and texture Peter’s canvases are alive with reality and expression yet never appear belabored or meticulous.
Darvas works with watercolor, acrylics, serigraphs, and also sculpts. However, his recent dedication is to the magnificent large oil canvases reflective of his Southwestern artistic heritage and frequent visits to Mexico as well as trips to the Caribbean islands and the Mediterranean coast.
His career as a professional artist spans some forty years beginning with his first one man show at age 16. Since then, Darvas has had 90 major exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad. He has been featured in Southwest Art, Artists of the Rockies and The Tahoe Quarterly magazines and is included in the book Contemporary Western Artists and Marquis Who’s Who in America.
Although Darvas holds a degree in fine art from the University of Texas at Austin he received most of his training living in Taos, New Mexico for 10 years, traveling the Southwest, and being a part of its rich artistic ambiance.
At present he divides his time between his two residences and studios at South Lake Tahoe and San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico.
Peter is also an avid sailor, and organizes sailing trips in exotic locations to open our eyes and hearts to world cultures.
You can find Peter’s paintings at Art for the Home in South Shore, or you can contact Peter directly at (530) 402-7020 or darvasart@hotmail.com to see his South Shore studio, commission a painting, or to arrange a sailing trip!
