Discover dabblers, divers, and other feathered friends with local birder Jim Woods. Woods will show you where to look to find birds in their natural habitats, and will share his knowledge of birds and other local wildlife.

Catch birds in their native habitat, while having a fun and informative nature day with our local birds as the star of the show.

Jim Woods is the Owner and Senior Guide for Birding Under Nevada Skies, and is a 20 year resident of Gardnerville, Nevada. His desire to further the understanding and joys of observing birds and the wildlife in the out of doors is the driving force for this venture. An active guide for the Eagles and Agriculture Festival in Minden and the Spring Wings Festival in Fallon, Jim is also affiliated with the Great Basin Bird Observatory and Lahontan Audubon Society.

The business will provide the opportunity for in the field photography, geology/rock hounding, wildflower identification, trout fishing, stargazing, camping and other outdoor actives as Jim goes about assembling the Guides and Staff of the organization. Born and raised in southern Arizona, Jim wants to bring a touch of the old west back into the lives of those who want to go birding under Nevada skies.

  1. Hello, I am thinking of spending a few days at Lake Tahoe in August (around 14 – 15 – 16). Are you a guide who can take me out for a day or maybe two? I’m from VT and hope to see some birds that never come to VT – don’t have to be lifers. Is this a good time for some birding at Lake Tahoe? Thank you for your consideration.
