Still some colors around Tahoe, as well as bald eagles, bears and blue heron at Taylor Creek grabbing salmon.
Following are directions to great spots to view fall foliage in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Hwy 267: from Kings Beach, take Hwy 267 North over Brockway Summit approximately 2 miles and viewing of a large Aspen meadow will be on your right
Cathedral Meadow – take Highway 89 south approximately 3½ miles just before the bridge at Taylor Creek. Turn left on the road to the Sno-Park and continue past the gate approximately 1 mile. The meadow is on the left.
Fredrick’s Meadow – Take Highway 89 south, turn left on Fallen Leaf Lake Rd. and continue past the campground entrance approximately 1½ miles. The meadow is on the right.
Taylor Creek Visitor Center – From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 89 north approximately 3 miles. Turn right at the Visitor Center entrance just past the Tallac Historic Site.
Ponderosa Meadow – Take Highway 28 past Roundhill, NV. Meadow is on the left.
Spooner Summit – take Highway 50 east approximately 15 miles. Park at the Tahoe Rim Trail trailhead on the left side of the highway.
Hope Valley – take Highway 50 toward Echo Summit approximately 5 miles. Turn left at Highway 89 south and continue over Luther Pass to Pickett’s Junction approximately 10 miles.
Sorenson’s Resort – From South Lake Tahoe, take Highway 50 toward Echo Summit approximately 5 miles. Turn left at Highway 89 south and continue over Luther Pass to Pickett’s Junction approximately 10 miles. Turn left on Highway 88 for approximately 1 mile.
