Meet Elizabeth and Olof Carmel, Truckee based photographers and owners of Carmel Gallery in Truckee.
The Carmels live full-time in Truckee, and have a young daughter who attends Truckee Elementary School. They are active in the local community; Olof participates in local nordic ski racing & coaching organizations, and Elizabeth is a Girl Scout Leader and contributes her time and photographic talents to local and national Land Trust organizations.
All of their images are printed as museum quality pigment prints using archival inks and museum-quality printing materials.
Elizabeth is an award winning photographer and the author of the best selling photography book “Brilliant Waters, Portraits of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and the High Sierra”, with a foreword by Robert Redford. In late 2009 Elizabeth released her second book “The Changing Range of Light, Portraits of the Sierra Nevada.” This new large format book features her landscape photography of the Sierra combined with important information about how the depicted landscapes will be affected by climate change. Copies of her books are available for purchase at the gallery, and from all bookstores including Amazon.
Using a 39 megapixel Hasselblad camera, her work emphasizes incredible detail, extraordinary composition and unparalleled color and tonal range. Her prints are available in small, exclusive limited editions of 50. Elizabeth’s work has been featured in many magazines, including Outdoor Photographer, Sierra Magazine, People, and Sunset. Her work is in many private and corporate collections and has been displayed at prominent museums.
Olof is a versatile photographer whose work is in galleries throughout the west, including the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite and in Alaska. Olof began his career in a prominent S.F. Bay Area custom B&W lab in 1981. During the 1980s and 90’s he worked and photographed as a backcountry ranger with the National Park Service in Yosemite, Denali, Glacier, Mt Rainier and Rocky Mountain National Parks.
His interest in architecture and building led him to obtain his contractors license and to design and build many custom homes including the Carmel’s gallery building in 2009. In addition to photography, Olof has a background in drawing and watercolors – an influence that can be seen in his images. His popular prints are available in small open editions or as limited editions of 200.
The Carmel Gallery is located at 9940 Donner Pass Road in historic downtown Truckee, California.
