It’s a classic fall event and blends two of our favorites for a great local cause.
Bikes and Music.
The September Tahoe Sierra Century is a fundraiser for cyclists to support the music programs at North Tahoe Middle and High Schools.
If you don’t want to ride 100 miles (read: you’d rather listen to the bands play music and eat pizza!), the 60-mile and 30-mile routes through Tahoe, Truckee and Donner are just as fun and fully supported.
Rest stops, lunch and an after-ride dinner from 1:30pm – 6pm are included with all entries. Fireside Pizza Company in Tahoe City will be serving a variety of delicious gourmet pastas and pizzas at the after-ride dinner.
The real treat: Live music by the North Tahoe High and Middle School’s award-winning bands will be playing jazz, 40’s tunes, and more at The Village at Squaw Valley.
Entry fee includes mid-ride lunch, after-ride dinner, rest stops, water bottle, and Tahoe Sierra Century ChicoBag (compact, reusable bags).
THREE RIDE OPTIONS:
100 Mile Route: 6,800′ vertical gain. After leaving Squaw Valley, ride along the Truckee River to Tahoe City, then enjoy 13 beautiful miles along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe before climbing up to Brockway Summit. Next, it’s a long descent into Martis Valley, then a strenuous 8-mile climb into Tahoe Donner. Stop and take in the vistas from the top before descending back into Truckee for a 5-mile cruise along Donner Lake. Climb Old Highway 40 over Donner Summit, then descend to our lunch stop at Cisco Grove. Head back up to the Summit and enjoy an exhilarating and beautiful descent back to Donner Lake. The last 15 are flat miles alongside the Truckee River back to Squaw Valley.
60 Mile Route: 2,500′ vertical gain. Starts in Squaw Valley, follows the Truckee River to Truckee, then 5 miles alongside Donner Lake. A strenuous climb up Old Hwy 40 to Donner Summit provides incredible views along the way. Descend to our lunch stop at Cisco Grove. Turn around and return the way you came, this time enjoying an exhilarating descent to Donner Lake and a 15-mile flat finish back to Squaw Valley.
30 Mile Route: Starts from Squaw Valley to Truckee, then alongside Donner Lake to west end. Lunch is provided at the turn around at Donner Lake rest stop, then head back to Squaw Valley. This is a relatively easy novice ride.
