While Moment Skis are made just outside of the basin, the owners/riders grew up skiing in Tahoe and still get their inspiration from Tahoe.
Every day.
For the team riders and owners, it’s the fall line that matters not the bottom line.
We also like their dedication and innovation - and art work!
And, many Tahoe locals ride their skis like Craig Garbiel who recently won the 1st Squaw Freeskiing Open in 2008, and the 4th Oneil Verbier Extremes in 2008.
Moment Skis started five years ago. They make Jib, Freeride, Women and Youth specific skis. The Tahoe pictured here is a Freeride ski; their “do-it-all ski” to match our changing conditions. Moment claims that with the Tahoe you won’t need to exchange the ski mid-day. It’s the only ski you’ll need.
Here’s the technical beta on the Tahoe ski:
Dimensions:
Length ♦ Tip-Waist-Tail ♦ Radius ♦ Eff. Edge
170 ♦ 127-96-118 ♦ 18 ♦ 1375
180 ♦ 127-96-118 ♦ 21 ♦ 1550
188 ♦ 127-96-118 ♦ 23 ♦ 1610
Every Moment ski has a laminated Aspen wood core with full length Pine stringers, mixed Triax/Biax and Uni layers of fiberglass and VDS Rubber dampening. They are all hand made to guarantee customization and TLC.
They also carry a Donner Party jib ski. “The rocker design is flat under foot and curved up toward the tip and tail, making them incredibly maneuverable in shallow snow and buoyant in the deep.” Quite possibly this ski design could have helped George Donner and his family survive that fateful winter of 1846.
We need some feedback, so check out the skis yourself. Head to Porter’s in Tahoe City, Incline Village and Truckee.
