“Sudan: The Land and the People,” a traveling photographic exhibit based on the 2005 book of the same title, is now on display at the Sierra Nevada College.

The multi-faceted exhibit includes viewings of the movie “Lost Boys of Sudan,” a Sudan photographic display by Michael Freeman, and the highlight - a lecture by one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, Daniel Mabior, on September 4th.

Photographic Exhibit thru Sept 14:

Award-winning photographer Michael Freeman brings Sudan to vivid life with his stunning images that will also be on display in the Prim Library on campus.

Michael traveled the length and breadth of the country over a period of two years, visiting all the major towns in every region and some villages that no Westerner had seen in decades, capturing nomads, herders, and farmers; teachers and students; lawyers and doctors; industrialists and laborers; and Muslims, Christians, and followers of traditional religions in the process. Freeman’s camera has caught, in the words of former president Jimmy Carter, “the essential humanity of Sudan.”

Lost Boys of Sudan Movie:

Lost Boys of Sudan is an Emmy-nominated feature-length documentary that follows two Sudanese refugees on an extraordinary journey from Africa to America. It will show August 26 & 27 in the Prim Library.

Orphaned as young boys in one of Africa’s cruelest civil wars, Peter Dut and Santino Chuor survived lion attacks and militia gunfire to reach a refugee camp in Kenya along with thousands of other children. From there, remarkably, they were chosen to come to America. Safe at last from physical danger and hunger, a world away from home, they find themselves confronted with the abundance and alienation of contemporary American suburbia.
