Lake Tahoe Community College is offering a new Special Topics course: Ethnic Studies 131J: African Contributions to American Culture, taught by Dr. Yasmin A. Sayyed.
The course will provide an introductory examination of the influences of African philosophy, aesthetics, spirituality, language and technology on the socio-economic and cultural development of the Americas.
Topics of concentration are organized primarily to appraise and appreciate the distinct African contributions to music, visual and poetic arts, dance, religion, language and cultural diffusion.
The course begins in the Fall 08 quarter, on Tuesday, 23 September, location TBA.
