Hula Dancing on the Lake.

Paddles Single 2 styles It looks a little funny. Like hula dancing on a surfboard.

Stand-up surfing.

With Polynesian roots, the kings of Hawaii and early HI surfers would use the paddles from their outrigger canoes to catch waves.

Today, it’s the latest craze and it’s caught on in Tahoe.

Why?

For one, it’s an incredible core workout. Since you have to constantly adjust with your feet as you’re standing still, you have to react to every movement in the water. With feet parallel to the center line of the board, you stand up on a surfboard, use a 6-foot paddle and alternately reach across your body to stroke through the water using the paddle to propel forward.

Another advantage is that you can see more than sitting on a board or in a kayak. You get a better panoramic view of Lake Tahoe and you can even see the bottom easier.

Can you can try it at Kayak Tahoe in South Shore, located at Timber Cove Marina behind Best Western. 530-544-2011.

Steve also rents kayaks and outriggers and has a tour to Emerald Bay everyday.
