She loves the luscious feel of silk, and uses it as her exclusive canvas for her paintings, wall hangings, and silk art clothing.
Learn how she does it this summer.
South Shore artist, Addie Chernus, will be teaching Silk Painting this summer at LTCC.
Addie’s colorful silk art has been exhibited and published nationally.
It’s easy to see why in her paintings of the Taos pueblos that capture the colorful clothing and Southwest landscapes illustrated in this wall hanging, “Taos Women Gathering”.
Here’s a description of the class by Addie:
Silk Painting - ART 139E
June 30 - July 17: Mondays - Thursdays; 1:30 to 5:25 pm
This class is a hands-on silk painting class using various materials and techniques. Students will experience the use of resists, silk and dye treatments, brush techniques, dye mixing and more.
The first day will encompass going over the materials, demonstrations, goals of the class and painting using Addie’s Multiple Technique Lesson.
Each day the teacher will demonstrate and discuss the lessons. Then the students get to work. The class will end with a critique.
Topics covered include: silk steps, resisting, color theory, texturing, design elements, techniques and “what makes a good painting”.
Students may use steam set or iron set dyes. After a few days in class we will all venture out into our beautiful surrounding area to enjoy Plein Aire painting.
