Here’s a little bit about the UA:
The Underground Artists came together when Melissa Lanitis Gregory found that two of her closest friends, Kristen Schwartz and Barbara Wesson, in similar stages of their lives and art careers, would agree to meet regularly to further their creative goals and eat chocolate. They are also responsible for producing the Tahoe: Lost & Found Art Show and Auction taking place September 19 at Valhalla.
Melissa Lanitis Gregory
www.papermoonstudio.comWell known for her recycled mixed-media and papier mache art, Melissa has started to make jewelry.
She also created one of the Bears by the Lake named Bear Your Soul.
Kristen Schwartz
An amazing illustrator who captures world cultures and many classic Tahoe icons like Cave Rock Woman (featured above), and Lake Mother in her mind-boggling detailed work.
Tree Shaman and Autumn Goddess (pictured here) are other local favorites and part of Kristen’s fantastical creations.

Barbara Wesson
A maestro at mixing earth tone colors and clay formations that bring her pottery to life to ignite the senses.
