Billy Jonas Rocks the House May 2 in KB

Posted on April 29, 2008
Filed Under Just for Kids, North Shore Events |

His shows inspire, inform, and enlighten all ages.

And, he’s performing at the annual community dinner for Arts for the Schools in Kings Beach.

Billy Jonas is unique.

Composer, songwriter, performer, instrument creator, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and educator.

In original songs and soundscapes, a Billy Jonas performance is an explosion of energy, of percussion played on industrial re-percussion: instruments made from found objects.

Besides being highly entertaining, his work is born out of respect and reverence, and seeks to honor the creative energy in everyone.  Jonas’ heartwarming work has been enjoyed across North America since 1987.

MUSIC & ART PROGRAMS

Artist-in-Residence Visual Art Program

artsfortheschools.jpg

AFtS was initially founded to bring local artists into North Lake Tahoe classrooms to make up for the declination in art programming due to California’s Proposition 13 in 1978. Prior community programs relied on volunteers to supplement scholastic arts programming, but these programs did not endure. Twenty-three years ago, AFtS chose to pay professional artists to provide students with the best possible training and experience in arts programming. The result has established a program that has proven to be an essential component of our children’s developmental learning.

Currently, AFtS employs three Artists-in-Residences throughout the school year: Cathee St. Clair (visual artist), Nancy Lopez (multi-disciplinary arts), and Anka Hass (visual arts). These Artists-in-Residences work directly with students K-12 to increase cultural and artisitic awareness, thereby helping to develop more conscience, multi-faceted learners.

Students learn the deeper concepts and significance of art in their lives. Students are challenged to explore the significance of experiencing both their own perceptions of reality and the world around them.

Music and Dance Assembly and Public Performances Program

AFtS works diligently to bring world-class performances to the North Lake Tahoe area. The focus of these efforts is to expose students of North Lake Tahoe schools to the importance of art and culture. Students are afforded the opportunity to interact directly with world-class performers through school assemblies and school workshops.

The artists also perform in public venues to help fund further programming and to serve the educational experience of children in North Lake Tahoe community schools.
