What is Art?

170px-stick_figuresvg.pngDating back to Aristotle and the Romans, people have always tried to define art.

It can get very complicated.

What’s the nature of art, its aesthetic value, its necessity, its purpose in our world?

And, if you can’t draw, sing, write, sculpt or compose are you art-less?

While art is made with the intention of stimulating the senses and the mind by transmitting emotions and/or ideas, trying to define it is subjective.

No doubt the traditional definition of art takes great skills and intuitive guidance, but what about the skier, dentist, architect, chef, student, gardener, sailor, massage therapist, bike tuner, mechanic, bowler, front desk clerk, liftie or taxi-driver?

Are they artists?

The Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture definition of art includes attitude. Our daily approach to living and interactions with other humans and nature. We feel Tahoe and Truckee has mastered the fine art of living.
