Like many people, Aaron Sedway’s workday starts with an early morning and copious cups of coffee. He then jumps aboard a whirring helicopter to travel deep into the wilds of Alaska to film the pros ski and snowboard the intense back country terrain.
The resulting images he captures are unique, awe inspiring, and a ‘must see’. If you missed his show, “Alaska Exposed” at the North Tahoe Art Center, you can still see his art online at http://www.aaronsedway.com.
More about Aaron:
Aaron Sedway’s love of photography started freshman year of high school when he started taking pictures of his friends skateboarding. From that beginning, his photography career has taken him on adventures around the globe, and allowed him to work in the great outdoors with celebrities such as snowboard pioneer Jim Zellers and Tahoe local Tom Burt. His work has appeared in Snowboard Magazine (where he was senior photographer), as well as Powder Magazine and Standard Films, one of the top selling producers of snowboarding films. “Now that I am working for Standard Films shooting a film camera is great change for me to watch my eye in a different format” writes Sedway, “It’s been really exciting for me to see my shots come to life on the big screen.”
Shooting a film camera is not the only change for Sedway. Recently he has forayed into the world of fine art photography, often working on mixed-media colorations with his mother, Carmel oil painter Andrea Raft. The transition has been easy since Sedway’s work has often been described as poetic, placing a greater emphasis on the abstract lines, texture, color, and patterns of the grand and intriguing landscapes that he photographs. His ambitious images are not only the result of a sharp eye, but also a love for Alaska, the outdoors, and clear weather days. “Traveling can be stressful at times, working out in the elements has its ups and downs, it’s always a challenge to overcome that side of it the weather of course…Then there’s the talent!” he jokes.
