Finally.
Tahoe’s stunning boating heritage will be captured on US Postal Service collector stamps.
The “Vintage Mahogany Speedboats” stamp series will include two Tahoe classics - The Thunderbird and Dispatch.
Each pane of 16, first class stamps will feature photographs of Dispatch (1931 GarWood from Carnelian Bay, Calif.), Duckers (a 1954 Chris-Craft from Loomis, Calif.), Frolic (a 1915 Hutchinson Brothers launch from Danville, Calif.) and the famous Thunderbird (a custom designed 1939 vessel moored at the Thunderbird Lodge on Tahoe’s East Shore) – still one of the fastest and biggest boats on Lake Tahoe.
“We’re pleased that the USPS has chosen Tahoe’s wooden boats for their new stamp series. Tahoe has played such an important role in the nautical history of this classic craft and we’re proud to promote the restoration and preservation of vintage wooden watercraft at the highest level,” comments Kirk Pumphrey, Concours d’Eelegance and Wooden Boat Week Committee chairman.
