Sprouts by Jenn Gleckman

sprouts_logo.jpgSprouts is one of the more popular places for lunch, despite its no credit cards policy. And regardless of what others say, it’s considered one of the more affordable places to eat, especially when you consider that its ‘Cadillac Rice Bowl’ is essentially two meals.

While I’m not a juice fan (and definitely *not* a wheatgrass aficionado) there’s plenty here for the less adventurous vegetarian. The hummus is great, available in such incarnations as hummus burrito and hummus melt, and there’s an assortment of burritos with fillings ranging from tuna to veggies. Same with the rice bowl options. The only potential downside is that there’s usually a very generous portion of cheese on everything that’s served warm.

Though the nicoise salad isn’t quite what you’d find in a Parisian cafe, it’s the closest I’ve found in South Lake Tahoe.

Finally, for those who consider people-watching an integral part of the dining experience, this place will definitely fit the bill.
